About this event

The Learner Diversity and Equity Committee (LDEC) is responsible for the study and advocacy of diversity and equity issues within Local 38 with an emphasis on enhancing teacher awareness, capacity, and practice. This work will be completed through the creation of networks of support and the coordination of efforts of provincial and local organizations/associations. Keeping our mandate in mind, LDEC is offering a series of learning opportunities titled Authentic Learning at Tsuut’ina and is pleased to offer:

Tsuut’ina’s Teachings: Nature Walk

Join Local 38’s Learner Diversity and Equity Committee (LDEC) for a day of authentic and hands on learning at the Brown Bear Woman Events Center on Tsuut’ina. Participants will engage in an exploration of Tsuut’ina world view, protocols, and values as they relate to nature and the land. Participants can anticipate spending time outdoors and being guided through teachings as they relate to the land.

Location Brown Bear Woman Events Centre/Spotted Elk Camps

Tsuut’ina Reserve, Calgary

Meeting Place: Grey Eagle Casino at 8:15am in the Southeast parking lot.

Participants will drive out together at 8:30am sharp

Session runs 8:30am – approx. 3:00pm

Audience Grades K – 12 Teachers & Administrators

This event is for certified teachers only.

What to Bring • Your own water/coffee/tea

• An item for a potluck lunch

• A gift for the elders to show appreciation and reciprocity for the knowledge that is being shared. Historically, it would be food, clothing, and other necessities for living. Contemporary gifts such as towels, blankets, notebooks, or tea could be given. It is up to you to come up with something as a way of saying thank you.

• The ATA will be giving tobacco as part of the agreement made.

Registration Registration is limited to 14 applications.

Registration will open Sunday May 7 at 7:00 pm on Eventbrite and is first come, first served. Once the tickets sell out, Eventbrite will provide a waitlist option.

A fee of $11.98 is required to register ($10 refundable deposit + $1.98 non-refundable Eventbrite fee). Refunds of registration deposit will be issued to participants after verification of attendance. One ticket per participant. Please do not register for others.
